I did not have the best night’s sleep and I realized there is indeed a difference in the beds in this category versus the Haven. The beds are very hard here. It is also my first time being under the pool deck. It isn’t too bad with the noise. You can hear the daytime music on your balcony and some people walking but it’s not bad at all. I am also typically an early riser so I wasn’t concerned.
I was excited to get up early for some casino time. Unfortunately, when I arrived at five it was already closed. I was surprised since we didn’t arrive until 10:30 AM but I guess we were close to shore. Oh well, I would just have to wait until tomorrow morning or later this evening. Veronica ended up waking up early as well so we had a coffee and pastry in the Observation Lounge. It is a perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and a view. We decided to get some steps in and went for a walk around the ship. We stopped to play miniature golf since it would be too hot to play later. After a few laps, we decided to hang out on the couches on the Waterfront. It was a nice view of the Virginia Beach. I wrote while Veronica played on her phone. We both felt hungry for something more substantial so we ventured to the Local to try their breakfast. Breakfast at the Local was really great. Veronica was “carded” for ordering coffee. The waiter, who looked young to me, asked me if she was old enough for coffee. He was shocked to learn she was 19 as he thought she was in grade three or four. Breakfast appeared shortly after our order. We were impressed and prefer it to the buffet. It is quicker than the dining room and was served hot and fresh. I think we will return to try other items. We went back to the cabin to change into our suits for some hot tub time at the Vibe. The Vibe was pretty crowded. I didn’t think many would get off to explore Norfolk and I was right. No shade was available so we decided to get a little sun and then go in the hot tub. It was very sunny and hot. The hot tub wasn’t too hot so it felt good to be in the water. However, afterwards it was uncomfortable in the sun so we went and sat at the bar and had a drink. We both felt pretty sweaty so we decided to shower before a light snack at our favorite spot, the Local. We each ordered a Caesar salad and split the sausage sliders. It was the perfect amount for a lighter lunch. We didn’t want to fill up because we had a reservation at Teppanyaki at 5:00 PM. I was tired from waking up early and the sun so we returned to the cabin to relax. We both took a nap before dinner. Today was like a sea day, and naps on sea days can be so nice. After dressing for dinner, we went to the Observation for a pre dinner cocktail. This was my first time trying the popular specialty restaurant, Teppanyaki. I have been to Hibachi restaurant at home, so I didn’t really feel the draw to try it at sea. Veronica had been to it when traveling with her grandparents and enjoyed it so we decided to give it a go. Shortly before five, a sizable line began to form. I was surprised to see that six tables were seated for such an early time. They offer two specialty cocktails but our server informed us that both were unavailable. I decided to get an upgraded Sauvignon Blanc and not a bottle since we had pay tax because we are in an American port. The first course was edamame followed by miso soup. Next, was a seaweed salad that was light on the seaweed and had cabbage, tomato, and cucumber. The dressing was super yummy making the salad quite lovely. While you are eating the salad, the chef begins the entertainment. In addition to preparing the food, the chef also sings tons of songs, makes jokes, and juggles. It makes for an entertaining evening with a delicious meal. Veronica and I both choose the steak and shrimp combination. Before the entree, everyone has fried rice and a “vegetable burger”—a stack of onion, zucchini, squash, and carrot. Two sauces are given to everyone and we enjoyed both of them. Most of our table left before dessert, but we stayed to sample the green tea cake. Our evening continued in the Observation Lounge. I had a fabulous Manhattan with Woodford Reserve. We listened to Ed Kelly perform on the piano. Much like Chris can have strong opinions about magic, Veronica can be same about music. She thought he was a good pianist, but on certain song he was off key with his singing. The final stop of the night was the District Brewhouse. Zoe Jackson was performing on piano. I went to the bar to inquire if Chimay was included in the package, and was delighted to hear that it was. I returned to our table with a bottle and two glasses. Chimay blue is my favorite beer ever. I really enjoyed sharing the beer with Veronica while listening to some fun music. With our early wake up and strong beer, we were ready a good night’s sleep.
